Beaumaris Lifeboat crew rewarded for their hard work

20 members of Beaumaris Lifeboat have been awarded The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.  The RNLI Operations Director, Mr Michael Vlasto, visited Beaumaris Lifeboat Station on 15 August to hand the medals to some of the crew, picture attached.  Mr Vlasto also awarded the RNLI Silver Statuette to Mr Gareth Parry, one of the longstanding Launching Authorities.  Mr Parry received the award for long and distinguished individual service to the RNLI.

Beaumaris Lifeboat Day starts with a Shout

Onlookers at the Beaumaris Lifeboat Day saw the lifeboat launch to rescue a cabin cruiser seen drifting down the Menai Strait.  Beaumaris Lifeboat was launched to render assistance and the vessel was taken under tow to Menai Bridge.  This was to be the first launch during Beaumaris Lifeboat day!

Three fishermen rescued at Caernarfon Bar

Beaumaris Lifeboat was called out last night at 00.15 by the HM Coastguard in response to a call received by mobile phone from a 28ft fishing boat that had engine failure.  The fishing boat with three men on board had left Caernarfon at 19.00 on Monday.    The crew of Beaumaris RNLI conducted a search of the waters off Caernarfon and were joined by a SAR Helicopter and Porth Dinllaen Lifeboat.  The fishing boat was located by the SAR Helicopter off a Mussel Bank near Newborough Beach.  Porth Dinllaen Lifeboat was stood down and Beaumaris Lifeboat proceeded to the Mussel Bank where one of the Lifeboat crew was put on board the fishing boat to assist the three men on to the lifeboat.  As one of the men had onset hypothermia and the other two were suffering with the cold and sea sickness, they were winched from the lifeboat on to the helicopter who then transferred them to hospital.      Antony Robinson, Beaumaris RNLI helm said;  “The weather conditions were such that it wasn’t suitable for us to tow the fishing boat so I asked HM Coastguard to retask Porth Dinllaen to assist with the tow.  Porth Dinllaen Lifeboat towed the fishing boat to the Menai Strait and we then took over and towed the boat into Slate Quay at Caernarfon.”   Beaumaris Lifeboat then proceeded back to the Beaumaris Lifeboat Station returning at 04.15.

Olympic torch to travel on the Beaumaris Lifeboat on May 29th

The Olympic Torch will set off from historic Beaumaris Castle at 7.00am before travelling along Castle Street and Alma Street and onto Beaumaris RNLI slipway before being ferried aboard the inshore lifeboat from Beaumaris Pier to Menai Bridge Pier. There will be accompanying lifeboats, the RAF helicopter and a flypast. The Torch will leave the Castle at 7 am and be on the Lifeboat by 0730 hrs.   News article * RNLI Press release

Lifeboat seeks new volunteers

Beaumaris Lifeboat is looking for new recruits as crew members. If you are interested in joining theRNLI in Beaumaris visit www.beaumarislifeboat.com and www.rnli.org.uk and visit Beaumaris boathouse between 6pm and 8pm on Monday and Thursday evenings, when weekly crew training takes place. "We are looking for very well motivated and dedicated volunteers who live or work in Beaumaris to join us" said PhilGreville.

Pier engineers donate power wash to the station

A team of engineers from BAMNuttall Ltd who are working on the Beaumaris pier redevelopment project have presented Beaumaris Lifeboat with a new jet power wash.  "We have been working very closely with BAM Nuttall over many months now and they havekept disruption to a minimum next to the boathouse.  We've been able tolaunch the lifeboat for rescues and on our weekly training without any delays"said Phil Greville, the Lifeboat Operations Manager.  "I'd like tosay a massive thank you to the team working on the pier, they built us ahauling block next to the slipway last year, and the new power wash will makecleaning the lifeboat after each shout much easier."
